The transnational capitalist class is using the global ecological crisis to revive its failing financial system. Neomercantilist tendencies have been evident, for example, in failures since to obtain further global trade liberalization through the World Trade Organization WTO. Yet, in spite of the growing significance of forced labor in developed countries, the supply chain dynamics surrounding this form of severe exploitation have largely been overlooked. It centres on a long-running dispute in Australia over whether charities can have a dominant political purpose. First, the focus on GVCs instead of domestic supply chains has made it unclear whether and to what extent forced labor is actually associated with production for export rather than local consumption.
