Indulgence contained them all, but this time shook it up just a little with a pre-trip to Ireland, to spend time with Rourke's extended family and give city-borne Eve a taste for country life. Her inner dialogue on the sheep, cow and people populations was funny, and felt like a perfect character touch. Returning to New York quickly brings her to a murder investigation, which becomes two, and shortly after, four deaths to investigate.

I liked how her solid background detective work ended up giving insight into the killers, which enabled her to further key in on mistakes and possible solutions. Predictably, view spoiler [ Eve sets herself as bait at the end of the investigation. In the context of the storyline, it actually makes some sense, as the killers are elite socialites who consider those of the underclasses mere pawns in a competitive game.

She was never really at risk, as her entire team was there for backup, which was also refreshing--there's only so many ways you can put an intelligent detective in life-threatening situations--otherwise they aren't intelligent. It's interesting to what extent Rourke has involved himself in police business, in this case coming along and "act like Peabody," as well as being down at the cop house aiding the investigation.

It doesn't seem forced because of the extent to which earlier books set up his increasing involvement, but I wonder where it will next lead them. When I started reading this series last year, I never in my wildest dreams thought I would read any series with 40 something books in it.

D Robb. Nora met her second husband, Bruce Wilder, when she hired him to build bookshelves. The last one was Missing in Death. No Tags, Be the first to tag this record! Eyes closed, she ran her hands over the good, strong muscles of his back, let the shape and scent of him seep into those places inside her that always waited.

Well I did it, and I am so proud. I've come to love these characters in this series. Eve has definitely grown to me from the person she was in Naked in Death. She has friends, a husband, family and just all the love in the world.

She is not the broken woman she once was. In fact I don't ever believe she was broken, I'd like to think she was waiting on Roarke. Roarke is amazing!

I love that man, I think he'd be the perfect husband for any woman fictional or real. I actually loved this crime. At first reading it, I thought it was very random indeed, but when the first interviewed the suspects it drew me in. I could already tell why they were doing, it and how. If anyone watches Luther on BBC then they know everything it was to know about this crime.

Oh I loved those 2 episodes. I thought it was some funny one liners in here from Eve. I love how she questions simple things like animals, and grass or the quietness of Connecticut.

Indulgence in Death

My favorite part was definitely visiting Roarke's family in Ireland. It was so good to see her accepted,by this loving family. I thought it was beautiful because on the inside I feel like this is what they both want. This was perhaps the first book they've mention when they have Children, well Roarke mentioned it, and Eve just looked at him. View all 9 comments.

Good story! I enjoyed this book. Interesting and good mystery. Recommend it to mystery and thriller readers, as well as romance readers. Nov 27, İlkim rated it really liked it Shelves: e-book , mystery , read-in-english , romantic-suspense , fav-author , on-kindle , crime , detective , Horrible killers. It's obvious from the beginning, and this is a story about Eve collecting clues and building a case against them mostly. You want to smash their heads while reading it. Perfect story again and the Irish parts at the begining was perfect too.

I meant the roo Horrible killers. If it wasn't for that, you'd be perfect. Because it has more padding? That's hitting below the belt. I'd bet mine, too, if it makes you feel better. Nov 05, Kerry rated it really liked it Shelves: , 8 , mystery , ebooks. I really enjoyed this one. I always enjoy a new book about Eve and Roarke and this one didn't let me down. It has an interesting - if particularly twisted - mystery and Eve faces it in her usual fashion. I've heard some people complain that they don't enjoy the interactions between Eve and Roarke as much now their marriage is settling down they celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary in this book.

I'm quite the opposite. Books are so often about people getting together and the drama and conflic I really enjoyed this one. Books are so often about people getting together and the drama and conflict involved in that there's got to be drama and conflict for a story after all.

I'm loving seeing the developing, calming relationship that is growing between two such tempestuous people. To have a good marriage - and Eve and Roarke certainly do - they can't stay in conflict. So the conflict is coming from outside now and it is their solid relationship that stands against it. This very fact was used to great effect in this book, and how Eve exploited someone's outside view of their marriage compared to the reality of it made for a satisfying conclusion to the mystery.

Although, that said, if I have any particular issue with Nora Roberts' books, it is that I often feel they sometimes end about a chapter too soon. If the main issue of the book is resolved, she often stops it at that point.

While I don't want the end of a book to meander on, I'd like a little more finish than she sometimes gives me, and I feel this book suffered from that. I can't really go into more details without spoilers, which I don't want to do, but I felt it wouldn't have hurt to see at least one more police interview at the end, and maybe finish on the up note of a planned barbeque with friends that was constanly mentioned throughout the book but forgotten right at the end. It's a minor complaint, but has left me feeling a little disappointed at the end, after having had a great adventure.

Nov 27, David Peters rated it liked it. I struggled a lot with this review because while this book added to the personal story lines of a very tight group of characters, characters which I enjoy, the actual mystery was non-existence.

Just like some episodes of SNL are not winners, you can't have 31 books in a series with them all being the best one. But I do not want to sound negative. I love the characters, love the futuristic world, and love the writing style, and more often than not, the actual case is pretty good.

This is a series you want to start at the beginning, because the relationships within the books are just as important, if not more so, than the individual mysteries themselves. I think that is a testament to Robb's Nora Roberts writing chops in the romance world. So many great parts I'm always amazed at the nuances I pick up in re-reads that I may have missed, or not fully appreciated, the first time.

I highlighted a lot of cute banter in this one. I also really loved the giving of the anniversary gift Mar 30, Ann Lorz rated it really liked it Shelves: romantic-suspense , killers , humor , series. Due to how far behind I am on this series you'd never know that I used to read them right away. Then they went hardcover and I fell a little bit behind.

Because of which of the challenges I used, you know that's not the only reason. I also couldn't get into this one. Six years later I finally finished it. I can't tell you over the years how many times I picked it up to read it and only got into the first chapter and then put it down again to read something else.
