His unit, a rapidly deployable light infantry force dubbed "Rogers' Rangers", were an effective unit, known for unconventional battle tactics that surprised and befuddled enemy forces. He instituted his famous rules as a guideline for those tactics. His rules have been modernized and adapted in various ways, but they are still considered an important part of the Ranger legacy.
