I read the first two Masie Dobbs books and liked the concept of the central character very much. The third book is a disaster, The author descends into soap opera and melodramatic clap trap. Our heroine has a truly remarkable talent - she can tell "real psychics" from "fake psychics".

This is a good period piece novels set between the World Wars with engrossing plots, fleshed out characters and - most importantly - the style that keeps readers turning pages. I am so glad I decided to read it. I feel this is the best of those focused on the aftermath, and the damaged lives, resulting from World War One.
